Genres have become increasingly hard to pin down; whether they're trended by blogs or vague generalities, it can be difficult to say Band A belongs to Genre B. Thankfully, Portland, OR's Dorian Duvall has saved us the trouble by giving his music its own genre. Under the moniker Onuinu (ON-you-IN-you), the multi-instrumentalist will introduce the world to Disco-Hop with his debut LP, Mirror Gazer, due August 21st via Bladen County Records.
As a first listen to the album, which Duvall produced himself with the help of drummer Jeremy Sherrer, have a listen to 'Happy Home'. The beat bounces and shimmers with warbling synths and grooving guitars, like Yellow Magic Orchestra made a beat with the likes of J Rocc (thus, Disco-Hop!). With lyrics like 'I hope you'll be around/when I'm in town', we can imagine what Onuinu's happy home is. Check out the track below.
To support the debut, Onuinu will be tagging along with YACHT for a string of U.S. tour dates in May and June. Check out the dates beneath the Mirror Gazer tracklist.
